When planning my wedding, I knew I would be taking on most of it with a DIY approach. My husband and I wanted to have elements that hinted at our love for travel and other personal touches that were unique to us.
Our invite design was inspired by decorative postage stamps. I included the classic postage stamp scallops and colorful illustrated flowers that matched our wedding flowers. Also, I love to illustrate my husband and I for our anniversary cards that I give him every year, so I wanted to incorporate that tradition as well.
For our save-the-date cards, we wanted them to resemble a postcard. I also incorporated some of the other design elements I created to make sure they were cohesive with our other wedding graphics.
We got married outside in a beautiful cobblestone courtyard. The venue was so lovely already that we didn’t need to add much. One element we added was a welcome sign. The design for the sign stemmed from our invitation design, but more simplified. I also added cowboy boots to the bottom to represent my husband and I and our love for boots and country music.

I designed our table numbers with similar elements to the invite to keep everything cohesive. I also designed a menu and itinerary for every place setting.
I created signs for all the different parts of the reception space and cocktail hour. They all have a similar design to our other elements, but I added illustrations to match what each sign was for.
One of my favorite DIY’s was our table seating chart. We built it from foam board, wrapped it in a subtle green floral fabric, and pinned in the lists for each table.
I am so happy with all the little elements from this day.
On top of all the small details, I also decided to sew my own wedding dress. That is definitely the DIY I am most proud of.
